X FACTOR – RESULTS SHOW – 21 OCTOBER 2012 – LIVE BLOG/REVIEW
Here we go people, another Sunday means another X Factor results show.
The group performance this week is the delectable ‘Ain’t Nobody’ by Chaka Khan. Stand out vocals for me include Jade – instantly recognisable amongst the crowd. Jahmene also gets his moment to shine producing a powerful high note. The groups are always going to struggle in these types of performance as they tend to just blend into everyone’s vocals.
My predictions for tonight? In danger I think are Kye Sones and also MK1. I would just love to see Christopher gone at this point but I think he is definitely getting the ‘older ladies’ vote i.e they’ll never buy a single or album but they like seeing him on the TV singing a song every week.
First up of the guest performers tonight is Labrinth and Emeli Sande, it does make me chuckle that he has now agreed to perform on the show after calling it ‘shit’ on numerous occasions. Lab starts off on the piano before Emeli emerges onto the stage. She is wearing a monochrome skirt and shirt outfit which Labrinth is in a smart/casual combination of a jacket, t-shirt and skinny trousers with some black boot type shoes. The stage looks very pretty for their performance, lots of star effects and white lights everywhere on something called ‘electric drapes.’ Emeli was great on the performance but that song was a pile of boring. Thank to @crystal_smile who commented to us ‘that song was boring with or without the X Factor.’
Then we go to the judges and Dermot, they are asked who could be in trouble, Nicole goes for Chris, Gary and Louis go for Jade because of her vocal troubles and Tulisa declines.
Next up on the stage is JLS, this new sound from them is very different, I will be interested to see how it goes down with their fans. I believe they are setting themselves up to break the US market with their new album, it is very Bieber sounding to me. As usual the boys give a very slick performance, lots of high notes in there which Aston and Ortise manage well, the dancing is also well balanced in the performance, just enough to keep things interesting. Just had a quick peak at our twitter feed, thanks for your comments, in general people hate it! Commenting that it sounds very Justin Timberlake and that the notes are too high for them. @hayley commented - I’m not liking it at all. Too much going on, and sounds 10 years old. #bleurgh and @MissRachelC84 also sent us a message saying ‘ I’m not feeling it………I don’t think I’d enjoy a whole album of it.’ Oh dear lads.
(Edit - @jow93_OM did send us a message saying ‘I love the new jls song!’ in the interest of equal reporting!)
JLS aside it is time to get those contestants back out with their judges!
Dermot announces who is returning and safe in no particular order…
- Union J
- Ella Henderson
- James Arthur
- Rylan Clark
- Christopher Maloney (noooooo!)
- Jahmene Douglas
- District 3
- Lucy Spraggan
- Jade Ellis
So that leaves Kye Sones and MK1 in the sing-off. I will remind you at this point of my prediction above (pats self on the back.)
I think we might get another deadlock tonight with the panel splitting down the table (Louis and Tulisa for MK1 and Gary and Nicole for Kye Sones.)
I actually feel a bit sorry for both of them this week, I don’t think either of the acts were the worst last night.
MK1 are up to sing first, it’s going to be hard for them without their production around them. They chose to cover the Script’s ‘The Man Who Can’t be Moved’ – a lot is put on Charlie’s shoulders to sing large portions of the song. Simeons’ raps work well and they sound best when they are working off of each other. Perhaps a strange song choice for them as it’s more of a ballad rather than an urban or RnB number which would perhaps suit them more. Hmmm…was I moved? No not really…a little at the beginning but not so much at the end.
Gary then introduces Kye Sones to the stage, Gary tells us that Kye has had flu all week and actually woke up this morning with no voice at all. He sings ‘I Can’t Make You Love Me’ – you can tell his voice is going at the end of some notes but he sings better than MK1.
Here is who the judges want to send HOME -
- Louis – Kye Sones
- Gary – MK1
- Nicole – MK1
- Tulisa – Kye Sones
Wow this is pretty tense stuff, deadlock is intense!
Dermot eventually announces that MK1 are going home…both Charlie and Simeon got teary watching their ‘goodbye’ VT. I think they were a victim of song choices this week…
Next week sees a Halloween themed week and ROBBIE WILLIAMS will be the guest performer on Sunday!
