X FACTOR LIVE BLOG AND REVIEW – 25 AUGUST 2012 – RITA ORA GUESTS! Pls RT!
I am sitting here with my cup of tea in hand ready for my first X Factor experience of 2012.
I missed last weeks opener where I believe a violent contestant was wheeled out for the nations entertainment.
I think X Factor viewers fall into two categories, ones who like the live stages (like me) and those who like the ‘audition’ rounds with the more comedic entertainment elements.
So that I guess is my problem with the X Factor, I am a little cynical about the show and really do believe they have their final 12 picked before they even film a thing.
Rita Ora is the guest judge tonight, I am looking forward to seeing her in action, I imagine her to be quite similar to Tulisa in her judging role.
The auditions are at the o2 in London this week and we see a short VT of some of the contestants getting ready to travel to the venue. We then see an X Factor worker saying ‘everyone will be seen today’ – yep but not by the judges!
First up we have a 23 year old man called Rylan Clark who is into his beauty regime, we see him tanning in his back garden then being professionally waxed! I actually warmed to his personality a little bit in his VT, at least he knows who he is! The new Lady Gaga though? We shall see! He did well on stage as well, complimenting Gary Barlow on his jacket and then revealing he was in a Westlife and a Take That tribute band! His audition was ok…the track was way to repetitive and his voice wavered in points, but he wasn’t terrible, some of his high notes were on point! I imagine they will say he isn’t strong enough though.
Best line – Rylan ‘don’t worry Louis I’ll knock the worry out of you’!! I bet he would!
Rylan makes it through to bootcamp, Gary was the only judge to say no. Can’t see him making the live shows.
The second contestant we have on is taking on Rita’s own song ‘RIP’ in a mash-up he has made himself, he hasn’t told anyone he is going and works as a chimney sweep as his day job! He’s 29 and pretty cute and also writes his own songs – nice! Kye Sones definitely has an effect on the ladies in the audience, I quite liked his voice but I’m not sure if he’s exciting enough, but based on the vocals I’d put him through! He even brings a little tear to Rita’s eyes..his looks will help him through I’m sure. Standing ovation is a little much though, c’mon guys he wasn’t that good!
Gary is ‘extremely excited’ by him, Louis ‘you were born to sing’, Tulisa ‘I could listen to you sing all day long, you could sell albums’ and Rita ‘you’re a superstar.’ Blimey you’d think he’d won the whole show!
Four yes votes and Kye is through…could be in the final 12. Gary Barlow tweeted after the show ‘one to watch.’!
We are switching to Manchester now while ‘Hold Up a Light’ plays in the background, this means Mel B is back! I believe she was quite mean last week!
Snanelle is a 17 year old singing a bit of Etta James, bless her they dismissed her pretty quickly, four no votes. Next up is a ‘serious artist’ Lucy Spraggen i.e. she has a guitar with her and she has written her own song. I don’t know if the X Factor is right going down this route or not, it opens up the competition a bit more but I’m not sure if it suits the show or not? This was a good song, it was quite comedic and I liked her voice, but perhaps it would be better if she went down the Tim Minchen route, I get the feeling the judges were looking to the audience on this one. On a side note, Tulisa looks lovely in the dark blue with her brown hair..more of that please T! The audience even starts cheering ‘we want more’!
Four yes votes for Lucy – my mind is not made up on this sort of contestant for X Factor though, singing their own songs on the live shows versus others doing covers will be very interesting.
Blimey we are now in Newcastle, this means Nicole Scherzinger who is now the official fourth judge for the live shows. Apparently she blended in well with the other judges…or blended away, who knows!
First up we have a nervous 41 year old, who is a proper Geordie, Nicole is lost! Billy Moore is awful – the first really bad one of the night, he stuffed up his introduction to the track and hasn’t even rehearsed his audition. Plus he can’t sing. At least he is honest when he says ‘I’m absolutely murdering it’ – the crowd takes over and it turns into a comedy act..he can’t get a note right on stage though! He looks genuinely upset at the end of it – deluded! Four ‘no’ votes for Billy.
We then have a VT full of the more bizarre auditions, all were jokes and didn’t get through.
They have to be building up to a good contestant! We are either going to be tricked with Sophie Stokle or she will be terrible. She looks like a little popstar in her tropical print outfit. Oh my god she is awful!!! She has a tonne of confidence but she murders ‘Love you I do’ by Jennifer Hudson. I blame the parents for this one, they seem to think she is really good and actually think the judges like her! C’mon, are they all getting paid for this – the producers must have thought they’d hit the jackpot with this one!
Tulisa says my thoughts exactly ‘what are the parents doing’ and Sophie gets four ‘no’ votes.
Well they are editing Newcastle to look like a ‘talent free zone’ aren’t they! I am thinking they are doing this to make the last lad look really good! It’s another song-writer called James Arthur and he is 24. He is bravely singing a cover of Tulisa’s ‘Young’ single in a slowed down acoustic way. I liked his voice, very James Morrison before going into an Ed Sheeran type rap of his own lyrics. Very biographical lyrics and again quite a brave thing to do..I did get sucked into his performance. Again though is he an X Factor style contestant or would he do better when he is off the show?
Some tears from James and four ‘yes’ votes and the show ends on a relative high.
