Hot Shot: Gary Barlow meets young Down’s Syndrome girl at X Factor
DREAM COME TRUE FOR YOUNG SINGER
Bless that photo is so cute, you can really see Gary is giving her a proper squeeze!
Bethany George’s dream man is Gary Barlow and this week with a little help from Nicole Scherzinger she got to meet her idol.
Bethany, who was born with Down’s Syndrome, went to the X Factor auditions in Newcastle with her mum Susan full of hopes she would meet her Take That idol Gary. Nicole picked her out from the crowd waiting outside and she got to meet him inside the Metro Arena.
Mum Susan, of Felling, Gateshead, said: “We had disabled tickets so we didn’t have to stand behind the barriers with the other 5,000 people.
“We had an idea when the judges would arrive, so we moved to an area where no-one was standing.”
Bethany and Susan could not believe their luck when new judge Nicole passed them in her chauffeured car.
“She gestured to us to see if we were coming in and I said yes, but then she got her driver to reverse the car and she got out,” said 53-year-old Susan.

“She started talking to us and said, ‘I’m going to Tweet this’ and I was like ‘what?’, because I don’t do Twitter or anything like that.
“We just could not believe it, why should she get out of her car for us?”
Bethany, who has been a huge fan of Gary Barlow since her childhood and frequently writes letters to him, had told her mum before they left the house that morning that she would meet Gary.
“I said ‘no, it’s not going to happen’ but she said ‘no it will’,” continued Susan, “So I got him a card saying ‘congratulations on your OBE’ and wrote a letter explaining about Bethany and put one of her letters in it. When Nicole stopped and spoke to us, I said, ‘Nicole, will you do us a favour and give this to Gary’, and she said she would.”
Mum and daughter then went into the arena with the rest of the crowd and never thought their encounter with Nicole would come to anything more. But they were wrong.
“Part way through they asked for Bethany to go to the front and she got a big hug from Gary,” said Susan.
“I had to get a picture to prove it had actually happened. She is still buzzing, and it was all over Facebook and Twitter because Nicole had tweeted it.”
X Factor fan Bethany even made it through the first round of the auditions this year in front of the producers, but was left disappointed not to make it to the judges stages, although mum Susan said meeting Gary made up for it.
“She spoke to Gary but I can’t remember what was said because it was that surreal,” said Susan. “Bethany just loved the whole thing.”
